An agreement is scheduled to be signed on Sunday as part of efforts to end the war with Iran, after which the Strait of Hormuz is to be reopened, US President Donald Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social on Saturday.

"The Deal is scheduled to get signed tomorrow, and immediately after it is signed, the Hormuz Strait is OPEN TO ALL," he wrote.

The Strait of Hormuz is a vital sea channel linking the Gulf to the Arabian Sea through which a large proportion of the world's oil passes. The war that began with US-Israeli attacks on Iran at the end of February has severely restricted the flow of traffic and has sent prices soaring worldwide.

Mediator Pakistan said earlier in the day that a deal would be signed on Sunday.
