Donald Trump has joked about renaming the Atlantic or Pacific Ocean "Trump Ocean" or "Ocean of the Americas”.
Speaking at a campaign rally in Clarksville, Tennessee, on Saturday (10 October), the US president suggested adding his name to one of the major landmarks of water.
“We've got the gulf. We've got a beautiful lake,” Trump said. “We need an ocean. So I was thinking, if either the Atlantic or the Pacific, we call it Trump Ocean or Ocean of the Americas, something like that”.
Last year, Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico as the Gulf of America, a move that sparked diplomatic tensions with Mexico.
In August 2026, he also signed an executive order to rename one of the five Great Lakes along the US-Canada border, Lake Ontario as ‘Lake America’, over his trade war with Ottawa.
