Ships are already moving out of the Strait of Hormuz following an agreement between the United States and Iran on a framework deal to end the war, President Donald Trump said on Monday.
"Ships are starting to move, many loaded up with Oil, out of the Strait of Hormuz," he posted on this Truth Social platform.
He said the vessels are taking a southern route, which he described as "totally safe, secure, and pristine," noting other routes are available, without elaborating.
Trump had earlier stressed that the waterway, which is important for global oil and gas trade, should be reopened only after the formal signing of the Iran deal on Friday, as mine-clearing work is needed.
After weeks of negotiations, the United States and Iran agreed over the weekend on a framework deal to settle the war. It is due to be signed on Friday in Switzerland.
It provides for an extension of the ceasefire and a reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, although much about what is in the text of the agreement is unknown.
