The Strait of Hormuz is to be opened only after the formal signing of the Iran agreement on Friday, US President Donald Trump said on his Truth Social platform.

"With the opening of the Strait upon the signing of the Deal on Friday, for purposes of mine removal, oil will flow on both ends again for the Region, and the World!" Trump wrote.

Iran's Tasnim news agency also reported, citing unnamed sources, that the Strait of Hormuz would be opened after the signing of a framework agreement on Friday.

Trump and mediator Pakistan had earlier announced that an agreement on a deal with Iran had been reached.

In his first post, Trump had sounded as though the Strait of Hormuz would be opened immediately. The US president wrote that he was authorizing the opening of the strait and that there would be no toll.

Trump also said that he ordered the immediate lifting of the US naval blockade of Iranian ports, according to the post.

The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's most important shipping routes for oil and gas, linking Gulf producers with global markets.
