US President Donald Trump on Thursday again raised hopes of a framework agreement between the United States and Iran, saying Europe could be the venue for a possible signing.
Documents were still being finalized, Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. This should happen in the coming days, he said.
There would probably be a signing, "maybe in Europe," Trump said.
He did not name a specific location or country. Shortly afterwards, he said the signing could possibly take place as early as the weekend. He would not be able to attend himself, but Vice President JD Vance could, Trump said.
Asked whether Iran's Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei had already agreed, Trump said that was his understanding.
According to Trump, the framework agreement would include the immediate reopening of the Strait of Hormuz and an end to the US naval blockade.
Trump celebrates his 80th birthday in Washington on Sunday. He then plans to travel to France for the G7 summit.
The Group of Seven leading democratic economies - the United States, Germany, France, Italy, Canada, Japan and the United Kingdom, as well as the European Union, is due to meet from June 15 to 17 in the French resort town of Évian on Lake Geneva.
