MALAYSIA’S success in hosting the 47th ASEAN Summit last month, particularly in the realm of security, earned praise from world leaders, including former United States President Donald Trump, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has said.
The Prime Minister explained that Trump’s admiration for the national security forces was expressed during his official visit to Malaysia while the summit was underway.
“He [Trump] even expressed a desire to meet the Inspector-General of Police, Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail, to convey his personal appreciation,” Anwar said.
“Overall, the success of our teams, including the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), who displayed efficiency during the visits of President Trump and Premier of China, Li Qiang, left them impressed with our capability in maintaining peace and security.
“I (still) recall President Trump asking for permission to meet the Inspector-General of Police to express his appreciation for the highly commendable performance of our security forces,” he added.
Anwar made the remarks after officiating the launch of the Malaysia Semiconductor IC Design Park 2 in Cyberjaya today. Present at the event were Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government, Datuk Aiman Athirah Sabu.
Outside of the 47th ASEAN Summit and related meetings, Trump also witnessed the signing of the ‘KL Peace Accord’ between Thailand and Cambodia, marking an official step to resolve disputes and restore peace in the previously contested border areas.
The accord was signed by Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet.
Commenting further, Anwar said Malaysia’s management of visits by global leaders had attracted significant international attention.
“Earlier, I had a meeting in the Prime Minister’s office with one of the world’s largest investment groups from New York.
“They already have some initial investments here. However, now, with global attention and the success of our various teams, they are genuinely impressed not only with our infrastructure but also with our capabilities,” he said. - November 6, 2025
