- President Donald Trump swore in Sen. Markwayne Mullin as the new Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security on Tuesday.
- Mullin was approved by the Senate on Monday to replace Kristi Noem. Noem was fired following fallout from Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis, a $220 million ad campaign, allegations of infidelity, and conflicts with other agency leaders.
- During Mullin’s Senate confirmation hearing, where he was ripped apart by the top top Republican on the Senate’s Homeland Security. Mullin refused to apologize for his comments about Sen. Rand Paul, saying in his opening statements to the committee during his confirmation hearing that he “understands” why Paul’s neighbor attacked him, leaving him with several broken ribs.
- Sen. Mullin, an Oklahoma Republican, grew up on a ranch in Westville where he and his family live. He describes himself as a successful business owner, working cow-calf rancher, and proud husband of 28 years to Christie Mullin. He has six children: Jayce, Jim, Andrew, Larra, Ivy, and Lynette.
- Taking questions from the press, Trump remained mum on negotiations with Iran, but claimed the country agreed to never have a nuclear weapon again.
