- President Donald Trump has claimed his war against Iran is “saving” the UK from a nuclear attack while criticising Britain for refusing to join the conflict.
- “If Iran had a nuclear weapon, they're more likely to use it in Europe, where they do have missile capability, than they are in America, where they don't. I'm saving your country from a problem because they would use it,” he said.
- Mr Trump also again suggested he would not back Britain if Argentina invaded the Falkland Islands in retaliation for the UK's stance on the war.
- The dispute follows the UK's decision under former Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer to only support defensive strikes rather than full participation in the US-Israeli offensive.
- The US president also warned that the UK faces disaster unless it tightens immigration controls and alters its energy policy.
