US President Donald Trump has threatened Iran with renewed attacks if it does not prevent Hezbollah from "causing trouble," as ongoing fighting between Israel and the Iran-backed militia continues to threaten negotiations between Washington and Tehran.

Trump posted his latest comments on his Truth Social platform on Sunday just moments after high-level talks began in Switzerland between US and Iranian representatives aimed at negotiating a long-term peace agreement following the signing of a memorandum of understanding earlier this week.

Under the memorandum agreed by Tehran and Washington, Israel and Hezbollah are also to halt their hostilities, but both sides have continued to trade attacks.

Lebanon's state-run National News Agency (NNA) reported on Sunday that five people, including a child, had been killed in an Israeli airstrike on the Beqaa Valley, while the Israeli military has also accused Hezbollah of further attacks.

On Saturday, Iran said it would reverse its reopening of the Strait of Hormuz as agreed in the memorandum, citing ongoing Israeli attacks in Lebanon.

Trump hit back on Sunday, calling on Iran to "immediately stop their highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon from causing trouble."

"If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder!!!" Trump wrote, referring to a flare-up in fighting with Iran the week before the memorandum was signed.
