Donald Trump was about to unload on a reporter in another one of his fiery exchanges with what he calls the “fake news,” but then he found out the outlet for which she worked.
Trump is known for lashing out at journalists, especially female reporters and those working for outlets with unfavorable coverage of the president. But as he was about to go after The Daily Wire’s White House correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan for a question about the Iran war he started — she calmed him down with just eight words.
French President Emmanuel Macron “is blaming the Iran war and you, essentially, for the rioting in France right now,” Olohan said to Trump Monday before he cut her off.
“I don’t think he is. No, I think that’s fake news. Who are you with?” Trump asked.
“No, sir. Mary Margaret with The Daily Wire,” Olohan replied, prompting the president to apologize to the conservative outlet created by Ben Shapiro and Jeremy Boreing.
“Oh, The Daily Wire is good. Sorry. Daily Wire is good,” Trump said while speaking to the press before departing the White House for a rally in Kansas to support Republican Senator Roger Marshall in the midterm elections.
Olohan appeared to be referencing Macron’s national address that he gave Sunday in response to violence that erupted this past weekend during protests in France against the rising cost of living and poor conditions in schools.
“Those who destroyed must pay. Those who looted must pay it back. Those who sought to bring down the Republic will answer for it,” Macron said, according to an English transcription.
While the French president denounced the violence, he also sympathized with peaceful protesters' concerns.
“These demonstrators expressed concern about the cost of living and the price of fuel. Both are driven by the conflict launched in the Persian Gulf, a conflict in which France has taken no part but whose consequences we are suffering,” Macron said.

Once Trump realized he was speaking with The Daily Wire, he chimed in about Macron, saying that he is “a friend of mine.” But instead of talking about the protests or the Iran war, he bashed the French president for his immigration policy.
“I told him a long time ago, you’re making a big mistake in France. You’re letting everybody from the world come in,” Trump said. “His borders are a problem, and he also has a little bit of a problem with energy.”
Trump has continuously berated journalists for asking legitimate questions while covering the White House.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen you smile. I’ve known you for 10 years. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a smile on your face,” Trump told CNN Chief White House Correspondent Kaitlan Collins inside the Oval Office in February.
“I’m asking you about survivors of Jeffrey Epstein,” Collins retorted.

The White House has faced intense backlash over its handling of government files related to the late convicted sex offender who ran in the same social circles as Trump decades ago. Trump has not been formally accused of any wrongdoing in relation to Epstein’s crimes.
“You know why you’re not smiling? Because you know you’re not telling the truth,” Trump told Collins.
Last November, Trump also snapped at Bloomberg White House correspondent Catherine Lucey on Air Force One for mentioning the Epstein files, telling her, “quiet, piggy.”
When the Lincoln Memorial reflecting pool was still under construction in May, Trump went on a surprise visit to check out his latest renovation project.
ABC News Senior Political Correspondent Rachel Scott asked Trump why he was focusing on cosmetic fixes to Washington, D.C., while gas prices surged because of the war.
“Our country is about beauty, cleanliness, safety, great people. Not a filthy capital. That’s such a stupid question that you asked,” he said. We’re fixing up the reflecting pond to the Lincoln Memorial, the Washington Monument, and you say, ‘Why are you fixing it up?’ Because you can understand dirt maybe better than I can, but I don’t allow it.”
