A mother in Kuantan is demanding a full investigation after her 13-month-old son was hospitalised with serious injuries allegedly caused by an incident at his babysitter’s home. The child was reportedly found unconscious with a piece of cloth wrapped around his neck while lying in a cradle.

The boy’s mother, Ding, a 37-year-old sales assistant, said she was contacted by the babysitter at around 9:30am on April 15. She was told her son had been found unresponsive and was being rushed to Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital (HTAA). Upon arrival at the hospital, doctors informed her that her son had suffered brain hypoxia, a condition caused by a lack of oxygen to the brain.

“My son was admitted to the ICU for eight days and has since been moved to the observation ward,” Ding shared, clearly shaken. “He’s now stable, but the doctors say he will need regular therapy and ongoing hospital observation due to the severity of his condition.”

Believing negligence played a role in the incident, Ding filed a police report to prompt a formal investigation. Speaking at a press conference at the Kuantan PKR service centre, she expressed her concerns about the circumstances that led to her son’s injury.

“I believe he was left unattended in the cradle, without proper supervision. I have so many unanswered questions,” Ding said, adding that the babysitter had expressed remorse, but that wasn’t enough.

Also present at the press conference was Koh Yee Yen, a special officer representing Deputy Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Dr Fuziah Salleh, offering support to the distressed mother.

Ding explained that she had trusted the same babysitter since May last year and had never encountered any issues until now.

Kuantan police chief Wan Mohd Zahari Wan Busu confirmed that the police have recorded statements from both the mother and the treating medical officer.
