GEORGE TOWN, Aug 10 — PAS deputy president Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man has reminded Perikatan Nasional (PN) members and supporters to avoid being provoked by their political opponents as the state polls draw near.

He said in these last two days, PN’s rival political coalition will attempt provocation to create issues.

“Don’t be involved in any of these provocations. We need to remain calm until polling day so that we can listen to the announcement of us winning in the state elections,” he said during a ceramah kelompok in Kampung Masjid, Bayan Lepas.

He said there were banners claiming PN had said that those who voted for PN will go to heaven or that PN Malays do not welcome “orang asing” and “pendatang”.

“These are not our banners. We never said if you vote for PN you go to heaven. These are fake banners put up to provoke us,” he said.

He told party grassroots to remove these banners and lodge police reports if they spot any.

“These are not from us. We will never put up such banners. Remove and report them,” he said.

Tuan Ibrahim also voiced his personal support and PAS’ full support for Gerakan president Datuk Dominic Lau as the PN candidate for the Bayan Lepas state seat.

He said Lau was selected as the PN candidate by the coalition leadership so everyone in PN must work together to support this decision and make sure he wins.

“I am glad that even though some individuals were disappointed when they were not chosen as candidates, they didn’t contest as independents; instead, they rallied together to work as a team in PN,” he said.

Tuan Ibrahim also talked about the main issues faced by Penang residents, such as traffic congestion, water scarcity and land reclamation.

He said the state is already facing bad traffic congestion, but instead of resolving it, the state government is implementing projects that will make it worse.

He said there was a lot of opposition to the controversial land reclamation project on the south-west side of Penang island, but the state government refused to listen to the grouses and complaints.

“We must stop Penang from becoming an elite place with traffic jams and a high cost of living,” he said.

He said the people of Penang should vote for PN if they do not want the project.
