The Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (PEJUANG), led by his own son, according to Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, favoured other anti-corruption groups above directly collaborating with Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA).
The previous chairman of PEJUANG questioned the fact that the party, whose president was his son Datuk Seri Mukhriz, was willing to take action to leave GTA despite the fact that its leader was not corrupt.
The only small parties left are Parti Bumiputera Perkasa Malaysia (PUTRA), Barisan Jemaah Islamiah Se-Malaysia (BERJASA), and the Indian Muslim National Alliance Party (IMAN), he said at a press conference today. "We are trying to include Malays who are clean of corruption through GTA because the big parties are all involved in corruption."
According to Berita Harian, additionally, Dr. Mahathir acknowledged his disappointment with PEJUANG's choice to depart from the GTA. The former prime minister declined to elaborate when asked about Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, President of the PEJUANG, on the issue.
He replied, "I don't know, that's what he (Mukhriz) thinks. The party's discontent with GTA, was the reason Dr. Mahathir and 12 other members of PEJUANG decided to depart.
"When we act to continue battling on the GTA platform, PEJANG's decision to terminate connections with GTA directly disqualifies us from staying a member."
"We believe that the purpose of GTA's struggle is to bring together Malay political parties, non-governmental groups, and individuals who are committed to the fight to safeguard their faith, country, and homeland." Said Dr Mahathir.
Signed by 13 members of PEJUANG, "on this awareness, we elected to continue the struggle through GTA." Said Datuk Marzuki Yahya, a former deputy president of PEJUANG who also signed the notification.
According to quotes from its president, Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir, the move also gives PEJUANG some time to improve the party in a number of areas before it can truly benefit any party in the alliance.
The former prime minister founded PEJUANG in August 2020, although he stepped down as its chairman in December of the previous year.
