Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, according to Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, was so desperate that he had to emerge on the Perikatan Nasional (PN) platform.
According to Berita Harian, the Prime Minister asserted that Dr Mahathir was formerly the 'cruellest' guy against PAS, people's religious schools, and victims of the Memali Incident, but he is now supported by the leaders of the parties involved.
However, he stated that the former Prime Minister's actions had little impact on support for the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) in the next State Election (PRN).
"He is a desperate guy, and he has no other room to drag," said Anwar Ibrahim.
"He has the right not to give in. However, it has no effect on Pakatan Harapan," he declared today at a press conference following the Friendly Meeting with FELDA Citizens.
Dr. Mahathir delivered his first speech on the PN platform in Kelantan yesterday, in front of tens of thousands of party supporters.
The former Prime Minister, who was dressed in a white shirt and a PAS jacket, hoped that all voters would come out and fulfil their various obligations in order to give the PN victory in the future.
Datuk Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah, Vice President of the PAS, is reported to be hoping that Dr Mahathir's choice to back the PN will help to clean up the former Prime Minister's "mistake."
According to Mohd Amar, everyone has a history, and it is acceptable if the individual has changed.
Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang, head of the People's Action Party (PAS), said today that former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had returned "to the fold of his struggles" after recently joining forces with Perikatan Nasional (PN).
According to Malay Mail, Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang equating Dr Mahathir to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Abdul Hadi stated that the ex-PM had previously worked with PAS after being dismissed from Umno in 1969.
"A member of PAS is a Malay who never forgets." In fact, Dr Mahathir went on stage with PAS after being fired from Umno during the Kapar by-election following the May 13 incident.
"Before that, he was with PAS to fight against the implementation of jus soli," he explained.
Abdul Hadi was reacting to media reports that Anwar had said Dr Mahathir's appearance on stage with PAS leaders was a show of desperation, and he reminded PAS members that Dr Mahathir had been "very brutal" towards the party during the Memali episode.
