Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad has sparked a wave of amusement on social media after a video of him searching for a purported RM3 billion allegedly in his possession went viral.

In a 1 minute and 26-second video posted on the X platform on Sunday, Dr Mahathir can be seen on what looks like a treasure hunt, frantically searching for the elusive fortune in various unlikely places – behind the television, under the bed, and even beneath the sofa cushions.

The 98-year-old statesman, who served as Malaysia's longest-serving Prime Minister, claims that he’s been searching for this vast amount of money for a whopping two years – but to no avail.

"I'm looking for the money – the RM3 billion that supposedly belongs to me. I've been searching for it for two years, and yet, I can’t find it!" he says in the video with a resigned but playful tone. "It’s just not turning up, no matter where I look!"

His actions have sparked a flurry of reactions, with many netizens interpreting this as a witty response to claims and rumors that he allegedly embezzled billions in government funds during his time in office. The comical and seemingly absurd search for the missing money is seen as a sarcastic jab at those who have accused him of corrupt practices.

In the video, Dr Mahathir appears to search with great determination, pulling out items from drawers and peering under furniture, but the RM3 billion remains elusive. As he glances at the camera, viewers can’t help but wonder if he’s just playing along with the jokes or perhaps hiding a serious message beneath the humor.

When asked in the video whether he plans to take the search overseas, specifically to Switzerland, Dr Mahathir is quick to entertain the suggestion. “Maybe the money is there,” he quips, with a knowing look, leaving some to chuckle at the possibility of it being tucked away in a Swiss bank account.

The video has quickly become a source of amusement across social media, with many netizens speculating about Dr Mahathir’s next move in this amusing ‘search for the missing billions’. Some joke that perhaps he should look in his pockets or the glove compartment of his car, while others playfully suggest that the money might be hidden in a secret vault somewhere, perhaps even a trapdoor beneath the sofa.

This clever and lighthearted video appears to be Dr Mahathir’s way of poking fun at the serious accusations surrounding his time in power. Rather than taking the allegations head-on, he seems to be using humor to deflect the attention and, in true Tun fashion, showing that even at 99 years old, he can still have a laugh at his own expense and healthy like before. Malaysians can learn from Tun on how to maintain good health in their golden years.

While the quest for RM3 billion may be a humorous exaggeration, it undoubtedly highlights the persistent rumors and conspiracy theories that have followed him throughout his political career. Still, one thing’s for sure – Dr Mahathir's sense of humor is as sharp as ever, and his ability to create buzz on social media remains unmatched.

So, will the treasure ever be found? Will Dr Mahathir continue his search in Switzerland or perhaps under the carpet next time? Only time will tell. Until then, the hunt for the missing billions continues — and it’s clear that this hunt is anything but ordinary!
