Tun Dr. Mahathir Mohamad, the former Prime Minister, is being treated for an infection at the National Heart Institute (IJN), as reported by Kosmo.

According to his spokesperson, Mahathir will also take some time off to rest during his rehabilitation.

The High Court here has once again postponed the trial of the 'kutty' defamation claim, which was scheduled to begin on February 13 after former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was found to be undergoing treatment at the National Heart Institute (IJN) at the time.

Dr. Mahathir sued the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, as the only defendant for defamation in 2017.

According to the Malaysia Gazette, in front of Commissioner Gan Techiong, Dr. Mahathir's lawyer, Mior Nor Haidir Suhaimi, stated that his client has also been issued a sick certificate until this Saturday owing to illness.

Shahrul Fuzli, the lawyer representing Ahmad Zahid, recommended an October date, but the judge opposed it due to the former prime minister's age.

"We can defer the date of another case to accommodate this one. I believe Tun Mahathir is the oldest litigant in this court. "The trial has been scheduled for July 19," said the judge.

The hearing is expected to last roughly four days; the proposed dates are August 26 and 27, followed by August 29 and 30 for the continuation of the hearing.

Tun Mahathir's son, Datuk Seri Mukhriz, will be among the witnesses in this case.

Dr. Mahathir, 97, the plaintiff and former chairman of Bersatu, filed the claim in the High Court here last year through Messrs Haidir & Co., citing Ahmad Zahid as the defendant.

According to the Malaysia Gazette, Tun Mahathir stated that the defendant made a false, defamatory, and malicious comment directly referring to the plaintiff during the Kelana Jaya Division UMNO Meeting on July 30, 2017.

The plaintiff believes that the defamatory statement's references to 'people', 'he', and 'Mahathir, son of Iskandar Kutty' are explicitly directed at him.

At the same time, Ahmad Zahid filed a defamation complaint, claiming that Dr. Mahathir defamed him during the Pejuang Party (Pejuang) Aspiration Launch Ceremony on February 23, 2022, at Yayasan Kepipinan Perdana in Putrajaya, in conjunction with the 15th Johor State Election (PRN).

Ahmad Zahid said that the former prime minister slandered him when he went to Dr. Mahathir's house with many others to seek assistance in resolving a court dispute he was facing.
