Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, a former two-term prime minister, asserted today that Malays "lost everything" as a result of his resignation from office following the dissolution of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government in February 2020.

The 97-year-old claimed he wanted to organise a "Malay Declaration" protest to bring the community together and bring their attention to the problems they are facing.

Initially after three failed attempts to find a location, the Malay Proclamation event was called off. However, Tun M asserted that certain other parties interfered with the Malay Proclamation rally and violated a commitment made in the Federal Constitution.

"I'm voicing my discontent today since the Malays lost everything after I retired as prime minister," he claimed. "It is true that when I left my position as prime minister, the Malays became so poverty stricken."

Despite his statement, no authority has yet stated that the Malay Proclamation meeting should not take place.

Nonetheless, Prime minister Anwar Ibrahim did release a public warning not to stir up racial tension in the country.
