Tun M: ‘Though I am almost a hundred, memories of my mother never faded’

FORMER Prime Minister, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said memories of his late mother remain vivid though she is now almost a hundred years old.

According to him, his late mother, Wan Tempawan Wan Hanapi, passed away in 1965 when she was 40 years old.

“Though I am almost 100 years old, my memories of my mother have never faded,” he said in a video recording uploaded to his Facebook as reported by Sinar Harian.

Dr Mahathir said his mother’s love and upbringing have shaped many of the values in him to this day.

“My mother instilled many values that have shaped me. I still hold on to my mother’s message to this day, which is to always be modest and not boastful,” he said.

He added that every word and prayer of his mother serves as a guide and protector for his children.

"That is the heart and feeling of a mother, not just raising her children, but the soul and values of life are shaped by them. Their words are a guide and their every prayer is a protector," he said.

Dr Mahathir also expressed his appreciation for the sacrifices of today's mothers who try to divide their time between earning a living and educating their children.

"Mothers today sacrifice alot, divide their time to earn a living and educate their children. These children are very lucky to have their mother's love. A mother is the courage for any struggle," he said.

He noted that a mother's strength is woven with unconditional love.

"For those who have left, we pray that they may rest in peace there. Rest, your struggle is over.

"For those who are still here, continue the struggle," he said. - May 11, 2025
