KUALA LUMPUR – Former prime minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad was admitted to the National Heart Institute (IJN) at around 9.30am this morning after suffering a fall at his residence.
The matter was confirmed by Dr Mahathir’s press secretary, Sufi Yusoff, when contacted by Astro Awani.
Sufi said Dr Mahathir was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and is currently under close medical observation.
He added that a media statement regarding Dr Mahathir’s health condition is expected to be issued in the near future.
This is not the first time Dr Mahathir has been admitted to IJN. He was previously hospitalised in July 2025 due to fatigue but was discharged later the same evening.
Dr Mahathir has served the country twice as prime minister and remains Malaysia’s longest-serving leader, with a combined tenure of 24 years.
Widely known as the “Father of Modern Malaysia”, he has played a pivotal role in the nation’s development. Among his most notable contributions are the establishment of the national car brand Proton, the Petronas Twin Towers, and the Sepang International Circuit.
These landmark achievements helped place Malaysia on the global map and elevate the country to international standards. — January 6, 2025
