
Kota Kinabalu: University College Yayasan Sabah (UCSF) plans to establish new faculties in Pharmacy, Maritime Studies and Computer Science, besides a Centre for Development Studies and a Tun Musa Aman Academic Chair on Nation Building and Policy Studies.
These initiatives were announced during a courtesy call by UCSF’s Board of Directors and Board of Governors on new Sabah Governor, Tun Dr Musa Aman, at Istana Seri Kinabalu, Wednesday.
AdvertisementChairman of the Board of Directors of Uni YS Sdn Bhd cum Chairman of the UCSF Governing Board, Datuk Dr Mohd Yaakub Johari, said strategies have been outlined to develop UCSF into a sustainable private university that can serve as a catalyst for development in Sabah and Southeast Asia in the long term.
The UCSF was realised in 2014 and was an initiative of Musa when he was Chief Minister. He also served as Chairman of Yayasan Sabah.

Among Members of the Board of Directors of Uni YS Sdn Bhd and Members of the UCSF Governing Board present were Datuk Seri Clarence Bongkos Malakun, Datuk Sam Mannan, Datuk Asnimar Sukardi, Izharudin Jalaludin and Jeriol @ Douglas Joinol.

“Japan will hold the Osaka-Kansai Expo, it is a world expo and will be a very important venue for Malaysia to be better known in Japan and worldwide,” Japanese Ambassador to Malaysia Shikata Noriyuki told Tun Musa in a courtesy call.

Shikata said Sabah is the first location he visited since being appointed last year.
“I know there are 30 Japanese companies working in Sabah especially in the timber industry.
“I think there is more potential for new investments especially in the green energy sector. We talked about energy transition. There are Japanese companies that have the technology and solutions to overcome problems.
“Sabah also has potential in research including biodiversity and tropical forests needed by Japanese students,” he said. Shikata was accompanied by Japanese Consul for Sabah, Sarawak and Labuan, Yamashita Yoshito.
