Former Udinese goalkeeper Luigi Turci has revealed Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson wanted to sign him.

Turci admits he regrets missing the move.

He told TV Play: "Me at Inter? I went to dinner at Pellegrini's, the moment I entered his wife's house and the daughter went out. Maybe that was a sign of fate.

"In 1999-2000 Manchester United made an offer to Udinese to sign me, but unfortunately Udinese had already submitted the UEFA list and Ferguson took (Massimo) Taibi in my place .

"United were looking for an Italian goalkeeper: the first to be contacted was (Gigi) Buffon, but he refused. The second was me, but the times didn't match. Even today I regret that missed transfer, I have a copy of the fax on my phone."
