Turkish authorities detain six suspects accused of spying for Iran’s Revolutionary Guard by monitoring military bases and drone shipments.

ISTANBUL: Turkish authorities have detained six people suspected of spying for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.

The suspects were detained following simultaneous raids in five provinces, including Istanbul and Ankara.

State-run TRT television reported the operation followed a joint investigation by the counter-terror department and Turkey’s intelligence agency.

The group is accused of conducting reconnaissance around strategic sites, including the Incirlik air base in Adana.

Incirlik air base hosts US forces and is a key NATO installation in southern Turkey.

The suspects allegedly transmitted intelligence and logistical information to Iranian intelligence operatives.

Investigators also reportedly uncovered evidence the group monitored shipments of drones through Turkey for use in other countries.

One of the six detainees was of Iranian origin, according to the private DHA news agency.
