Turkish President Erdogan cautions against provocations jeopardising the fragile Iran-US truce, urging a lasting peace deal during talks with Trump.
ANKARA: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has warned that “possible provocations and sabotage” could threaten the newly agreed ceasefire between Iran and the United States.
In a message welcoming the accord, Erdogan expressed hope the truce would be implemented “without giving any opportunity” for such disruptions.
He delivered this caution during a telephone conversation with US counterpart Donald Trump, according to a Turkish presidency statement.
Erdogan urged the two sides to use the “two-week window of opportunity” to reach a lasting peace agreement.
“This process must not be compromised under any circumstances,” he told Trump, pledging Turkey’s full support.
Turkey participated in diplomatic efforts with Egypt and Pakistan to help secure the ceasefire.
The nation has also dispatched three trucks of medical aid to Iran.
Health Minister Kemal Memisoglu stated the aid aimed to “heal the wounds” of the oppressed.
