TURKISH Airlines announced on Wednesday that it has finalized firm orders for 100 Boeing 737-8 MAX jets, with options for another 50. The deal also allows the airline to switch orders to the larger 737-10.
The jetliners are slated for delivery between 2033 and 2037.The order, Turkish Airlines’ largest Boeing single-aisle purchase, concludes discussions that began in 2025 and were held up by a dispute over engine maintenance terms.Turkish Airlines had threatened to walk away from the deal last year over the dispute with engine maker CFM, which is co-owned by GE Aerospace and France’s Safran.Reuters first reported last week that the deal was close to being finalized.“This agreement marks another significant step in the continued expansion of our fleet. The new Boeing 737 MAX aircraft will bring greater efficiency and flexibility to our operations, supporting the extensive network we serve from our hub in Istanbul,” said Murat Şeker, Turkish Airlines chairman of the board.A signing ceremony was staged at the United Nations General Assembly with Seker, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Stephanie Pope, Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO.The agreement, along with orders for up to 75 787 Dreamliners, was announced last year during a meeting with Erdogan and United States President Donald Trump.Turkish Airlines currently operates about 400 Boeing and Airbus jets.
