I understand Turkey, also called Turkiye, country that occupies a unique geography position, lying partly in Asia and partly in Europe. Throughout its history it has acted as both a barrier and a bridge between the two continents. Eventhough it is not a member state of the European Union (EU), Turkey is one of the EU's main partners and both are both are members of the EU-Turkey Customs Union. (www.britannica.com>placs

I remember visiting Istanbul and enjoy its typical Turkish cuisine from the Black Sea Region that uses extensive, especially the Black Sea anchovy (hamsi) and includes maize dishes. It is famous for variety of kebabs, mezes and dough-based desserts such as baklava, sobiyet, kadayif, katmer and kunefe. Among the most popular delicacies in Turkey are, lufez and dolma (grape leaves stuffed with rice). (www.barcelo.com>portada<)

Whereas, the famous street food in Turkey, known throughout the world, doner is a type of kebab made of meat cooked on a vertical rotisserie. It is a special mix of meat and spices are stacked in the shape of a nice inverted cone, which is later turned slowly on the rotisserie, placed next to a vertical cooking unit. This Turkish kebab is one of the famous dishes in Istanbul & also throughout Turkey.

For our weekend meals, my wife, Zarina & I are grateful to Datin Niki Yusof for introducing us to Baba Hur Turkish Restaurant at Plaza Damas, Sri Hartamas Kuala Lumpur. I thought the VIP lamb plate would be lighter than rice, but I was naively wrong - this one was suprisingly filling, especially with fries on the side. I enjoyed sipping a small cup of hot Turkish Black Coffee which is more stronger than espresso, but not as bitter, that originated in Middle Eastern and European countries, including Turkey, Iran & Greece. I had the opportunity to engage in an interesting conversation with an enterprising Turkish owner, Sedat who lives in KL with a Malaysian wife. v
