TÜRKIYE has become one of the notable contributors of foreign investment into Malaysia, with total investments estimated at nearly USD154 million, or more than RM500 million to date, generating substantial employment opportunities for Malaysians.

Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani said the scale of Turkish investment underlines investors’ confidence in Malaysia’s economic fundamentals and business environment, while further strengthening bilateral economic relations between the two countries.

“Many investments have come from Türkiye into our country and so far they have invested nearly USD154 million, approximately more than RM500 million. This has created job opportunities and shows that Türkiye is an important economic partner,” he told Buletin TV3 in Ankara on Tuesday.

Johari’s remarks come as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is undertaking a three-day official visit to Türkiye, aimed at deepening long-standing ties and expanding cooperation, particularly in trade, investment and strategic industries.

Anwar arrived in Ankara earlier on Tuesday accompanied by his wife, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir and Johari himself.

The growing presence of Turkish investment in Malaysia is seen as part of broader efforts by both governments to enhance economic collaboration and diversify partnerships amid global economic uncertainties.

Johari said the investments not only contribute capital inflows but also support job creation and skills development for the local workforce.

Malaysia and Türkiye have steadily expanded economic engagement in recent years, with both sides viewing investment cooperation as a key pillar of their strategic partnership.

The current official visit is expected to further encourage business links and unlock new investment opportunities between Malaysian and Turkish companies. - January 7, 2025
