Getting your first job has never been harder. The competition is fierce, automation is reshaping entire industries, and standing out as a fresh graduate — with little experience and a degree everyone else also has — can feel impossible.

But here's the thing: your biggest obstacle might not be your skills or your drive. It might simply be access.

Across the country, there are bright, deserving, forward-thinking students who never get their shot — not because they aren't good enough, but because financial barriers get in the way first.

The OSK Foundation exists to change that.

By identifying students with genuine potential, the Foundation goes far beyond a scholarship cheque. Scholars receive financial support, professional training, real industry exposure, and even guaranteed job placement upon graduation — everything they need to walk out of university and straight into a career, not just a job hunt.

Because talent is everywhere. Opportunity shouldn't be the thing that holds it back.

The OSK Scholar Development Programme

Being an OSK scholar isn't just about funding your degree — it's about being shaped into someone who's genuinely ready to lead.

The Scholar Development Programme runs alongside your studies and is built around real experience, not just theory. Scholars develop the soft skills — communication, leadership, problem-solving — that employers actually look for, so that by the time their internship comes around, they're already walking in prepared.

That internship will be with OSK Group, placed in a division aligned to their field of study. And for many, it's where their career begins — scholars who are a strong fit will transition directly into a full-time role upon graduation.

Think of it as finishing your degree and already knowing where you're headed.

Testimony of a Scholar

Lim Phang Zhen, better known as Glenn, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, majoring in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence. His journey, from figuring things out through trial and error, learning programming through online tutorials, to eventually contributing to the development of OSK’s internal document approval system, reflects a steady progression shaped by persistence and opportunity.

Glenn is one of the scholars supported under the OSK Foundation Scholarship Programme, which accompanied him throughout his undergraduate years. The financial support made a meaningful difference, easing the burden on both him and his family and allowing him to focus on his studies without constantly worrying about the next semester’s expenses.

“Receiving the scholarship significantly reduced the financial pressure on both my family and myself. Instead of constantly worrying about how to fund the next semester, I was able to approach my studies with clarity and focus,” he shared.

With that weight lifted, Glenn was able to be more intentional about how he spent his time in university. He did not just aim to get through each semester. He got involved in events, clubs, and hackathons, while picking up skills beyond the classroom. It gave him the space to explore, build confidence, and grow into someone more prepared for what comes next.

The programme goes beyond financial assistance. Scholars are also given access to training and development opportunities, along with exposure to real working environments through internships within the OSK Group. This early exposure helps bridge the gap between what is learned in university and what is expected in the workplace.

For Glenn, that transition felt like a natural next step. Upon completing his degree, he joined OSK Group as an Applications Engineer in the IT Department under the programme’s bonded pathway. His role involves working on internal systems, from development to deployment and ongoing support, giving him hands on experience across different parts of the software lifecycle.

Along the way, he has been exposed to areas such as project management, database engineering, and solutions architecture. Just as importantly, he has had to learn how to work with different stakeholders, adapting how he communicates, managing expectations, and making sure everyone stays aligned. It is a skill set that does not always come from textbooks, but one that makes a real difference on the job.

Today, Glenn is building a career in a field he enjoys, while continuing to learn and grow within the organisation. Glenn’s journey exemplifies how the OSK Foundation Scholarship does more than fund education, it empowers scholars to grow, contribute, and succeed as future industry professionals.
