Major broadcasters TV3 and Astro AWANI have denied publishing fake news about fuel prices and electricity tariffs, confirming reports are false and urging public verification.

KUALA LUMPUR: Buletin TV3 has formally denied publishing any information regarding fuel prices as featured in a recent viral social media post.

The broadcaster stated it had received alerts about the spread of false information that misused its official logo and visual identity.

“Buletin TV3 will lodge an official report with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) to enable further action and investigation into the dissemination of the fake news,” it said in a statement on its official Facebook page.

Meanwhile, Astro AWANI also reported the circulation of fabricated news using its brand on platforms like Facebook and WhatsApp.

This fake news concerned an alleged statement by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim regarding an upcoming electricity tariff hike.

Astro AWANI confirmed in a statement that it had also lodged a report with the MCMC on the matter.

The media organisation advised the public to verify any information’s authenticity through its official channels, including its website at www.astroawani.com.
