As Malaysia celebrates Hari TVET Negara 2026, we are reminded of the vital role that Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) plays in driving economic growth, improving employability, and developing a highly skilled workforce capable of meeting the demands of modern industries.
For decades, society has often placed greater emphasis on conventional academic pathways. While academic education remains important, the realities of today's workforce have highlighted an equally important truth: industries require skilled, competent, and work-ready professionals who can perform practical tasks efficiently and effectively from the very first day of employment.
This is where TVET stands as one of the nation's most valuable educational assets.
TVET provides learners with industry-relevant knowledge, practical competencies, technical expertise, and workplace experience that directly correspond to employer requirements. Unlike traditional education pathways that may focus heavily on theoretical learning, TVET combines theory with hands-on practical training, enabling graduates to gain real-world experience before entering the workforce.
Today, Malaysia is experiencing rapid growth across numerous sectors, including healthcare, manufacturing, logistics, construction, digital technology, renewable energy, and services. These industries require skilled workers who possess both technical abilities and professional workplace competencies. Unfortunately, many employers continue to face challenges in recruiting personnel with the right practical skills.
TVET helps bridge this gap by producing graduates who are trained according to industry needs. This not only benefits employers but also creates greater employment opportunities for graduates. As a result, TVET has become an increasingly important component of Malaysia's national workforce development strategy.

One sector where the impact of TVET can be clearly seen is healthcare.
Malaysia's healthcare industry continues to expand due to population growth, increasing healthcare awareness, advances in medical technology, and rising patient expectations. Private clinics, specialist centres, hospitals, diagnostic facilities, and healthcare organisations require a steady supply of competent healthcare support personnel to maintain quality patient care and operational efficiency.
While doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals often receive significant public attention, the healthcare system also depends heavily on skilled support staff who ensure that daily clinical operations run smoothly. These individuals serve as the backbone of many healthcare facilities.
Recognising this growing need, I have been actively advocating for the *Pembantu Klinik Swasta (Private Clinic Assistant) TVET Programme* as an accessible and practical career pathway for Malaysians, particularly school leavers, young adults, and individuals seeking employment opportunities within the healthcare sector.
The Pembantu Klinik Swasta programme is designed to equip participants with essential skills required in modern clinical settings. Participants receive training in patient registration procedures, appointment management, clinic administration, healthcare documentation, infection prevention and control, inventory management, customer service, communication skills, workplace ethics, and basic healthcare support functions.
More importantly, the programme exposes participants to the realities of working within healthcare environments. Students develop confidence, professionalism, and practical workplace competencies that employers highly value.
The importance of this programme extends beyond employability. It also contributes directly to improving patient experiences and healthcare delivery. Well-trained clinic assistants help create efficient workflows, reduce administrative burdens on healthcare professionals, and ensure patients receive timely and organised services.
As someone involved in healthcare training and workforce development, I strongly believe that TVET programmes such as Pembantu Klinik Swasta represent a significant opportunity for Malaysia's younger generation. Not every individual wishes to pursue a lengthy academic route, and many are eager to enter the workforce with practical, job-ready skills. TVET provides them with a respected and valuable pathway to achieve their career goals.

Furthermore, TVET supports social mobility by creating opportunities for individuals from various educational and socioeconomic backgrounds. It enables people to acquire professional skills, secure stable employment, improve their income potential, and contribute meaningfully to society.
The future of Malaysia depends not only on producing graduates but on producing competent, adaptable, and skilled professionals who can meet the challenges of an evolving economy. TVET plays a critical role in achieving this objective.
As we commemorate Hari TVET Negara 2026, let us continue to strengthen public awareness, encourage industry participation, and inspire more young Malaysians to consider vocational and technical education as a pathway to success.

TVET is not a second choice. It is a smart choice.
By investing in skills development programmes such as Pembantu Klinik Swasta, we are investing in people, strengthening our healthcare workforce, and building a more resilient and prosperous Malaysia for generations to come.
Skills Create Opportunities, Opportunities Build Futures.
