Tvet key to developing world-class skilled workforce: MInister

TAWAU: Technical and Vocational Education and Training (Tvet) continues to play a key role in producing world-class skilled workers capable of meeting industry needs and supporting the nation's economic development, said Sabah Education, Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk James Ratib.

In a speech delivered by his Political Secretary, Justinus Jalang, at the opening of the KV Skills Programme for the Sabah and Labuan Zone 2026 at Tawau Vocational College on Wednesday, James said Tvet has become a key driver in developing a highly skilled, innovative and competitive workforce in line with advances in technology, automation and digitalisation.

He said vocational colleges in Sabah and Labuan continue to make an important contribution to the country's skilled workforce, with expanding career prospects encouraging more parents and students to choose skills-based education and career pathways.

James said the KV Skills Programme is more than a competition, serving as a platform to assess students' competencies, strengthen their confidence, promote professional work practices, foster teamwork and sportsmanship, and expose participants to industry standards in preparation for employment.

He said the State Government will continue supporting efforts to strengthen the Tvet agenda, while expressing appreciation to lecturers, trainers and parents for nurturing students' potential and hoping the programme will continue producing competent and ethical graduates ready to meet current and future industry needs.
