Twelve arrests after terror threat at Islamic event in Suffolk

  • Twelve people have been arrested following an alleged extreme right-wing terrorist threat against an Islamic event in Shrubland Hall, Suffolk.
  • Police advised organisers of the UK Ijtima event to conclude it earlier than planned on Sunday due to the credible threat.
  • Three men, aged 55, 60, and 82, were arrested in Surrey on suspicion of conspiracy to murder, with a 48-year-old woman arrested in east London for assisting an offender.
  • Eight other men were detained under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act in various locations including Surrey, Essex, Ipswich, Greater Manchester and London.
  • Commander Helen Flanagan of Counter Terrorism Policing London confirmed the swift action, while home secretary Shabana Mahmood condemned the threat and urged unity.
