In a disturbing case involving individuals with wife-sharing fantasies, a 42-year-old man's appeal for a reduced sentence was recently rejected by the court. The man, a central figure in the case, had been sentenced to 29 years in jail and 24 strokes of the cane for orchestrating the rape of his wife by inviting five men to their home between 2010 and 2018.

The unsettling details emerged in May 2023 when the father of four confessed in the High Court to administering sedatives to his wife and witnessing the assaults in their bedroom, often without protection, while their children slept in another room. Shockingly, he also admitted to raping the wives of two of the men involved in this disturbing arrangement.

Representing himself in the Court of Appeal on Jan 17, the man pleaded for leniency, citing his deep affection for his family and expressing an inability to abandon them. He presented letters from his mother and sister, painting him as a dutiful son facing financial constraints but not burdening his parents.

Despite these pleas, the three-judge apex court disagreed with the man's request for a lighter sentence. Chief Justice Sundaresh Menon remarked that the initial sentence was, if anything, lenient, emphasizing the court's commitment to adhering to precedents and maintaining sentencing principles.

This man was part of a larger group of seven individuals involved in an extraordinary case of husbands conspiring with other men to drug and rape their respective partners. Connections were established through online forums dedicated to discussions on partner swapping, such as the SammyBoy platform.

While four of the five men admitted guilt and received sentences ranging from 13½ to 22 years in prison, with additional caning for three of them, the fifth man, found guilty after a trial in November 2023, awaits sentencing. Additionally, a seventh man involved in an unsuccessful attempt to assault his wife received a three-year jail term.

The crimes came to light when explicit images of one of the victimized wives were discovered on her husband's mobile phone in January 2020, exposing the disturbing reality of husbands conspiring to engage in such heinous acts.
