TWO armed criminals shot dead by police in the basement parking area of a condominium in Bandar Baru Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, last night have been identified as active members of a robbery syndicate operating since 2023.
The suspects, aged 29 and 40, were believed to be linked to an organised crime group involved in a series of armed robberies across Negeri Sembilan, Selangor, Perak, and Kuala Lumpur.
Deputy Director (Intelligence/Operations) of the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) at Bukit Aman, Datuk Fadil Marsus, confirmed the group’s involvement in more than 70 robbery cases targeting homes, parcel collection points, and convenience stores.
“Preliminary investigations estimate total losses from the group’s criminal activities at close to RM1 million.
“We believe the two suspects were among the core members of the gang, actively committing robberies since 2023,” Fadil said when contacted today.
He added that police are currently intensifying efforts to track down the remaining members of the group.
“We are confident there are more individuals connected to this network. Operations are ongoing to identify and apprehend them,” he said.
The shootout took place around 10pm during a police raid on the condominium, where officers exchanged gunfire with the two suspects in the building’s underground car park.
The 40-year-old suspect had a staggering 76 prior criminal records, including offences related to drugs and violence, while his 29-year-old accomplice had 11 previous convictions.
Investigations revealed the men had rented the condominium as a temporary hideout, along with several other premises used as safehouses.
Police recovered two firearms from the scene—a semi-automatic pistol and a revolver—believed to have been used by the suspects during their criminal activities. - May 16, 2025
