Police detain a man and a woman to assist in the investigation of a viral video showing a person in a hijab drinking beer.

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have arrested a man and a woman in connection with a viral video showing an individual wearing a hijab drinking beer.

Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar said the 22-year-old man and 24-year-old woman were arrested in Subang Jaya at 4.30 pm.

He stated that preliminary investigations revealed the individual in the video was a man.

“The police confirm receiving a police report about the video,” Kumar said in a statement.

He added that the Bukit Aman CID Classified Crimes Investigation Unit is investigating the case under Section 298A of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Kumar stressed that police would take stern and uncompromising action against anyone deliberately causing disharmony through religious insensitivities.
