Sandakan KPDN enforcement officers arrested two men and seized subsidised diesel worth over RM70,000 in a targeted operation

SANDAKAN: Two men were arrested and 120 litres of subsidised diesel seized during a raid at a petrol station here. The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) branch conducted the operation based on intelligence to prevent fuel exploitation.

Enforcement officers discovered seven jerrycans filled with diesel in a four-wheel-drive vehicle. The two suspects, aged 34 and 49, failed to produce any permit or authorisation for the purchase.

The total value of the seizure, including the vehicle, is estimated at RM70,258. One of the individuals arrested is a foreign national.

Sandakan KPDN chief enforcement officer Joe Azmi Jamil said the raid aimed to ensure subsidised diesel is not misused. He stated the fuel, priced at RM2.15 per litre, should not be exploited by smuggling syndicates.

Both suspects and the petrol station operator are being investigated under the Control of Supplies Act 1961. The operation is part of the ongoing Ops Tiris 4.0 initiative.

Joe Azmi reminded operators to comply with new diesel sale limits for land transport. The directive, effective since April 1, restricts transactions to 50, 100, or 150 litres depending on vehicle category.

The public is urged to report suspicious activities through official KPDN channels. These include a dedicated WhatsApp number, an e-aduan portal, a call centre, and a mobile app.
