Two people were found burnt to death inside a car that caught fire after a crash at the Jitra toll plaza on the North-South Expressway.

PETALING JAYA: Two people were found burnt to death inside a car that caught fire after a crash at the Jitra toll plaza early today.

The incident occurred on the North-South Expressway in Kedah.

According to New Straits Times, Jitra fire station chief Noor Azhar Tajudin said his department received a distress call at 1.05am.

A team of seven firefighters was immediately despatched to the scene.

They were assisted by five members of the Seberang Nyonya volunteer fire brigade.

“The operations commander reported that upon arrival, a Honda Civic FD was already engulfed in flames,” said Azhar.

He said the estimated damage to the vehicle was about 85%.

Initial checks found two victims who had been burned to death inside the vehicle.

The gender and identities of the two victims have yet to be ascertained.

The fire was brought under control at 1.23am.

Cutting tools were used to extricate the bodies of the victims from the wreckage.

The operation also involved personnel from the police and the Health Ministry.
