Two men have been detained following the discovery of the charred bodies of four men in a burnt-out car at an Italian petrol station, the Italian news agency ANSA reported on Tuesday, citing the public prosecutor's office responsible for the case.
The men are suspected of quadruple murder and were taken into custody after several hours of questioning by police, ANSA reported.
The bodies of the four men, who were migrant farm workers from Pakistan, were discovered on Monday in a minivan that had caught fire at a petrol station in the small town of Amendolara in the south of the country.
According to ANSA, the suspects are also believed to be Pakistani nationals. Authorities were able to trace them after analysing CCTV footage, which showed them blocking the car doors and throwing a flammable liquid into the vehicle.
ANSA reported that the victims were burned alive.
The village of Amendolara, with a population of 3,000, is part of the Calabria region, where many people from Asia are employed in the agricultural sector on low wages.
There is repeated criticism in Italy regarding working conditions and the treatment of foreign agricultural workers.
