Two drivers killed in Tawau, Tenom crashes

TAWAU: A logging truck driver died after his vehicle skidded and overturned at Km 136, Jalan Kalabakan-Maliau Basin, around 9am, on Monday.

Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin said the 33-year-old victim was said to be from Kalabakan-Serudung towards Brantian Farm to deliver logs.

“When reaching the scene, the driver was believed to have lost control, entered the opposite lane and skidded onto the right side of the road.

“The truck skidded for some 66 metres, resulting in the victim being thrown out through the broken windshield,” he said.

Jasmin said the victim died at the scene due to severe injuries, adding investigations are still ongoing under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

In TENOM, a man, believed to have fallen asleep while at the wheels, was killed after being hit by a Proton Gen 2 near SK Sapong, Tuesday.

The Tenom Fire and Rescue Station deployed nine firemen led by Mohd Zainal Sinsian to the location after receiving a distress call at 12.16am.

The 55-year-old victim was confirmed dead by a Medical Officer at the scene and the victim’s body was handed over to the police for further action.
