Two drown at Lubuk Tupai Waterfall

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 21 - Two men drowned after being swept away by strong currents while swimming at Lubuk Tupai Waterfall in Kampung Hulu Rening today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the department received an emergency call at 12.13pm before dispatching a team from the Kuala Kubu Baharu Fire and Rescue Station and the Batang Kali Volunteer Fire Brigade to the scene.

The victims, aged 21 and 23, had gone hiking with four friends before arriving at the waterfall.

“The two victims were reportedly swimming in the river when they were believed to have been swept away by strong currents and drowned,” he said in a statement.

Ashrul added that the victims were found at the bottom of the waterfall at depths of about five metres at 2.15pm and 2.25pm, respectively. Both were confirmed dead.

Their bodies were handed over to the police for further action before being taken to the Kuala Kubu Baharu Hospital.
