SEMPORNA: Two Filipinos are feared to have drowned after a boat carrying four men was hit by another vessel in the waters of Pulau Sebangkat here on Aug 6.

Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Semporna Maritime Zone Director Maritime Commander Amir Shubli said one Filipino man was severely injured and the fourth person escaped unhurt in the 6am collision.

He said the two missing and feared drowned are Rommek Tura and Jimal, both 30 years old.

“Reymar, 30, sustained serious injuries to his arms, knees and back and received emergency treatment at Semporna Hospital. The fourth victim was identified as Bocoi, also,30,” he said in a statement Thursday.

Read more “The boat carrying the four victims was said to have gone out to sea on Aug 5 at 5 pm. The individual who hit the victims’ boat fled the scene,” he added.

Amir said the Kota Kinabalu Maritime Rescue Sub Centre (MRSC) launched a search and rescue operation after receiving information from the police, deploying MMEA assets Bangi 11 and Adal 18 to the location of the incident.

“The search area has been expanded to five sectors with an increased radius of 27 square nautical miles,” he added.

He said the search operation also involved the Royal Malaysian Navy, Marine Police, the Civil Defence Force, and Sabah Parks.
