Two Filipinos held in girl’s murder probe jailed for immigration offences

Kota Kinabalu: Two undocumented Filipinos, who were remanded to assist in a murder investigation involving a 10-year-old girl, have been jailed four months each by the Sessions Court for entering Sabah illegally.

Sessions Court Judge Hurman Hussain sentenced the men, aged 39 and 21, on Friday after they separately pleaded guilty to charges under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.

The older man was arrested on July 16 in Kampung Numbak 2, Manggatal, while the 21-year-old was detained three days later by the roadside in Kampung Numbak, Sepanggar, after both failed to produce valid identification documents.

The 39-year-old had earlier been remanded alongside a 42-year-old local man following the discovery of Nurjilya Abdullah’s body in bushes near a house under construction in Kampung Numbak on July 16, with police extending their remand until July 31 for ongoing murder investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code.

The court ordered both convicts to be referred to the Immigration Department for deportation after completing their prison terms.
