TAWAU: Police arrested two men believed to be foreigners with 0.65 grammes of Syabu during a crime prevention patrol around town here around 12.40 midnight on Friday.

District Police Chief, ACP Jasmin Hussin said the suspects, aged 21 and 37, were arrested after his team came across the suspects on a motorcycle.

“The patrol team were going around the Takada area before seeing them riding suspiciously.

“When they were detained for questioning, police found a transparent plastic packet containing clear crystalline substance believed to be syabu kept in a sling bag belonging to one of the suspects,” he added.

Jasmin said both men were taken to the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division at the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) for further investigation.

He said that initial weight estimate of the syabu was 0.65 grammes while both suspects were found to be positive.

He said the case was investigated under Section 12(3) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (ADB) 1952.

Meanwhile, Jasmin gave a stern warning that they would not compromise with anyone on drugs or other crimes in the district.

“Police also express their appreciation to the residents of Tawau for channelling information and being sensitive to the criminal behaviour around them,” he added.
