
Amritsar rural police, in a joint operation with a central agencies, apprehended two individuals allegedly linked to foreign-based handlers and seized two hand grenades from their possession on Tuesday.
Director General of Police Gaurav Yadav stated that preliminary investigations had revealed that the accused were in direct contact with handlers based abroad and were acting on their instructions.
Police officials said the accused were part of a network being operated by cross-border elements, seeking to destabilise the region. Security agencies are now working to uncover the extent of the conspiracy and identify other persons connected to the network.
An FIR has been registered at the Gharinda police station under relevant Sections. Further investigations are underway to establish both forward and backward linkages of the accused and trace the origin and intended use of the recovered explosives.
Police officials stated that the operation reflected the continued efforts of security agencies to counter terror activities and organised crime in the state.
