PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested two home ministry officers and a member of the public to assist in a probe into alleged graft in expediting applications for citizenship.

MACC said the three were arrested in an operation which ran from 1pm to 5pm in Putrajaya yesterday after the anti-graft agency received information related to the case.

“The home ministry is fully cooperating with MACC’s investigation. The three detainees are currently giving their statements at the MACC headquarters,” it said in a statement.

MACC deputy chief commissioner (operations) Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya said then that this was orchestrated by a medical practitioner with a “Datuk Seri” title, who owned multiple clinics and maternity centres.

The doctor was allegedly responsible for issuing fraudulent birth confirmation documents, according to Khusairi.
