KOTA BELUD: Two women, one of them elderly, were injured when their Proton Saga skidded onto the road shoulder at Kg Penampang here early Sunday.
The car is believed to have lost control before skidding off the road at around 6am, trapping both occupants inside.
Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Chief Elgie Bakuk said they received an emergency call at 6.08am and dispatched a team.
“The team arrived at 6.30am but found the victims had already been assisted by members of the public,” he said in a statement, Sunday.
The victims, aged 38 and 73, sustained injuries and were given first aid at the scene before being taken to Kota Belud Hospital for further treatment.
The operation, led by Rano Gadol, ended at 7.14am after the scene was cleared of further hazards.
Road users are reminded to drive carefully to avoid accidents.
In Beaufort, a 28-year-old man, a 29-year-old woman and a 10-year-old child escaped unhurt after their Perodua Bezza plunged into Sungai Padas behind a Maybank branch here on Saturday.
Beaufort Fire and Rescue Chief Ishak Jabas said they received an emergency call at 8.42pm and dispatched a team to the scene some two kilometres away.
He said preliminary findings showed that the car had plunged into the river while reversing and that all three occupants were rescued by members of the public at the scene.
Medical officers from the Ministry of Health Malaysia were also present, and the victims were taken to hospital for further treatment.
