SANDAKAN: Two men, aged 46 and 18, sustained head injuries and broken legs and arms in a collision involving a three-tonne truck and a 10-tonne truck carrying oil palm at the Simpang Beluran Checkpoint, near here, on Thursday.

District Fire and Rescue Station Chief Edoen Macheal said they received an emergency call via the MERS 999 hotline at 6.57am.

A team of seven personnel, along with a fire engine, was dispatched to the scene, located 26 kilometres from the station.

Edoen said both victims had already been rescued by the public before the firemen arrived.

The operation ended at 9.13am after the department ensured no more safety hazards at the scene.

The incident caused a three-hour long traffic congestion.
