KUALA LUMPUR – Police have arrested two men who attempted to trespass into Istana Negara yesterday, with a parang in their car.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Rusdi Mohd Isa said the men tried to enter the palace compound on Jalan Sultan Abdul Halim via Gate 3 around 4.40pm.

The men claimed they wanted to meet Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, he added.

"Checks on the car also revealed that there was a parang.

"The men, all locals aged 29 and 37, were arrested.

"Urine tests on them also showed that the suspects tested negative for drugs," he added.

The case is being investigated for criminal trespass and possession of an offensive weapon.

Rusdi said a remand order was obtained until May 21 for the suspects for further investigation," he said.

He also requested that the public not speculate on the matter or spread false information. – May 18, 2024
