TWO enforcement officers from the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Kedah were remanded for five days on suspicion of receiving bribes in exchange for not taking action against a man for drug possession.
A five-day remand order until this Thursday against both suspects was issued by Magistrate Siti Norhidayah Mohd Noor after an application was made by the MACC at the Alor Setar Magistrate's Court yesterday, reported Berita Harian.
According to sources, both male suspects in their 30s and 40s were detained between 4:30 and 5:30 pm when they came to have their statements recorded at the Kedah MACC Office.
"Both suspects are believed to have solicited and received a bribe of approximately RM1,500 from a man. The money was in exchange for not taking action against the man for drug possession," he said.
Meanwhile, Kedah MACC director, Datuk Ahmad Nizam Ismail, when contacted, confirmed the arrest of both suspects and said the case is being investigated under Section 16(a)(B) of the MACC Act 2009.- March 17, 2025
