Two killed and several injured as Russia resumes air strikes on Kyiv amid US talks

  • Russian air strikes have killed at least two people and injured seven others in Ukraine’s capital Kyiv this morning, shortly after the departure of US peace negotiators.
  • Mayor Vitali Klitschko said Russia attacked the city with ballistic missiles and injuring ⁠six people; people were also trapped in a residential building, and there were fires across Kyiv.
  • A ⁠five-storey apartment building and a three-storey residential block were damaged by falling debris, the Kyiv Military ⁠Administration said on Telegram separately, asking people to seek ​shelter.
  • As explosions were heard in Kyiv, neighbouring Poland, a Nato and European Union member, began military aviation operations to protect its airspace against a risk of violation, its armed forces said on X.
  • Russia resumed attacks on its smaller neighbour after US peace envoys Steve Witkoff and Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner left following a meeting with Ukrainian president ⁠Volodymyr Zelensky on Sunday.
