MERSING, Sept 1 — Two people died, while four others were injured in a two-boat collision near the Sungai Mersing estuary here last night.

The Fire and Rescue Department’s (JBPM) Operations Control Centre reported receiving an emergency call regarding the incident at 9:04 pm.

Following that, a Fire Rescue Tender and a Fire Response Vehicle (FRV) with a strength of nine personnel from the Mersing Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) were rushed to the Mersing Jetty.

“Upon the arrival of the Operation Team (PKO), it was confirmed that a collision had indeed occurred between two boats. Two victims were confirmed dead by medical personnel and handed over to the police for further action,” according to the statement.

Fire authorities reported that four other victims who sustained injuries are receiving treatment and the operation is still ongoing.

Meanwhile, Mersing District Police Chief Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani confirmed the incident and said that the case is still under investigation, with a media statement to be issued shortly. — Bernama
